I would like to inquire about getting my Chinese silk scroll framed. It is currently on a scroll and I would like the ends removed. I would then like it matted and framed. It is a scroll that lays out horizontally and is quite wide. Is there any way to tell me how long this would take and how much it would cost? If needed, I can bring it in to show you and we can go from there. Thank you for your help.

You can simply cut the wall scroll leaving 2-4 inches (5-10cm) of border at the top and bottom. This will form a border of silk that you can use in lieu of expensive western-style matting.

You will effectively turn this:

...into this:

Then take the result to your custom framing shop and pick out the moulding and other options that you want for your framed portrait.

Even if we offered framing services at our shop, it would not be cost-effective to send framed artwork from California to North Carolina (also, UPS does not have a good record of safely delivering framed artwork). We do actually build custom frames at our Beijing workshop, but the freight from Beijing to the USA for a frame is crazy. So we only offer that service to our local Chinese customers in Beijing.

Cheers,
-Gary.
