Tang Dynasty Horse Ride

This depicts a group of ancient Chinese people on horseback. It's not a wild ride, as one of the women is sharing the ride with her young daughter. This is more a calm leisurely ride comprised of noble people.

The time period sometime during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.). Tang was really the "dynasty of the horse", as more than any other time, horses were an important part of society. In fact, one's wealth was strictly determined by the number of horses one owned. Good horsemanship was also a revered trait. Horses were also an important element of the Tang army, with officers and Chinese knights riding horses into battle.

About the Artwork and Materials

This artwork is partially-printed (the black detailed lines and outlines of the horses and riders). The colored portions are hand painted. The paper is "antiqued" meaning, it's made to look old in a process of staining the handmade paper with tea. The result is a paper that is a bit mottled and full of artifacts, making it look hundreds of years old.

Before you buy, please note the size. This is a wide piece of artwork. The framing will not be cheap, but the results will be worth it. The artwork has a gold/brown brocade border which can be used in lieu of mat board (which should save you a bit of money in the framing cost).
