Puxian / Samantabhadra Lotus Embrace

The deity depicted here is Samantabhadra, known in Chinese as 普賢菩薩 (Pǔxián Púsà) or just 普賢 (Pǔxián).

In this image, Samantabhadra is holding a lotus flower.

In Japanese, old Korean, and old Vietnamese, this deity is written the same way as 普賢菩薩 but with pronunciations of Fugen Bosatsu, 보현보살 (Bohyeon Bosal), and Phổ Hiền Bồ Tát respectively. Many deity titles in Mahayana Buddhism derived from the Chinese titles as they spread to Japan, Korea, and Vietnam (all of whom used Chinese characters as their standard written form at the time).

Samantabhadra is known as Küntuzangpo in Tibetan, S̄mạntp̣hạthr in Thai, and Samantapatra in Sri Lanka (Sinhala).
