Emperor Qianlong on Horseback

Fifth Emperor of the Qing Dynasty

This wall scroll features a reproduction of Giuseppe Castiglione's Emperor Qianlong on horseback. Emperor Qianlong lived from September 25, 1711, until February 7, 1799. He reigned over China proper (all 18 provinces) for more than 60 years of the Qing Dynasty.

The artist of this original piece was Giuseppe Castiglione (Italian, 1688-1766). Castiglione was a Jesuit priest who traveled to China and eventually converted to Buddhism. His experiences in China and his artistic talents were combined to create some of the most unique artwork to come out of China in the 18th century.

Note: I do have two similar prints on the website. This version is larger by about 15%.
